People in South Africa’s Cape Town, have been reflecting on the legacy of Fidel Castro.
One of the Mother City’s most popular spots is an establishment called Cape to Cuba -one that embraces the Cuban way of life.
Right now it is considered a fitting place to remember the late Cuban leader, who died last Saturday.
“Obviously we feel sorry for a great man because we believe he was a great man. He brought incredible health care and schooling into Cuba. But it was his time — he was 90 years old,” Tess Bristow, manager of restaurant Cape to Cuba said.
Various associations in Cape Town with connections to Cuba are planning several events.
“People have been mourning about the former leader. He was a great leader also and a revolutionary leader. And things have just been down- it wasn’t what we expected normally, as you can see our flags are also on half-mast also,” member of local Cuban group, Tawqane Chaklyukaa said.
To many observers, inhabitants of Capetown are remembering Castro due to his support for the anti apartheid movement. As they pay tribute to Castro, they are also remembering South Africa great leader, Nelson Mandela.
